No trains, buses or metro due to national public transport strike 

Public transport will largely be at a standstill on Wednesday morning due to a national strike. Students and staff should expect cancellations and delays. Scheduled exams will go ahead.

On Wednesday, public transport will largely come to a halt due to a major national strike organised by the CNV and FNV trade unions. Students and staff should prepare for a chaotic morning rush hour. Between 4am and 8am, no trains, buses, trams or metros will be running anywhere in the country.

Services will start up again from 8am. It is expected to take several hours before the timetable is running to schedule again.

Exams will proceed as planned

Exams at Erasmus University will go ahead. Students who arrive later because of the strike will be given more flexibility with the maximum entry time. They will be allowed to enter up to 10.30am. The end time of the exams will remain the same.

The university advises students to plan their journey well in advance or look for alternative transport. Staff are advised to discuss with their manager whether working from home is possible.

Against plans cabinet

The strike is part of a relay campaign against the cabinet’s cuts to social security. Flyers distributed in recent days read: ‘Public transport is on strike on 24 June until 8am because this cabinet has chosen to dismantle the social safety net’.

The cabinet wants to cut 6.5 billion euros from social security. The state pension age will rise more quickly, the maximum duration of unemployment benefit will be shortened and disability benefit will also be reduced.
