Students less likely to pass early exams: ‘No one wants to wake up in the morning’

Could the time of your exam determine whether you pass or fail it? Researchers at the University of Groningen investigated this. It turned out that students who take a morning exam are less likely to pass than those who take their exam later in the day.

The research findings are reflected in students’ preferences for exam times. “I think I prefer later in the day, because no one wants to wake up in the morning”, says Raishad, a third-year Business Economics (IBEB) student.

Some other students do prefer morning exams. “You’re fresh, after a couple of coffees. And you’re ready to go”, says Adil, a first-year IBEB student. Or just do it at night, Raishad suggests jokingly. “So we can drink right after.”
