Editor-in-Chief of Delta on shortlist for ‘Journalist of the Year’
It was a close call for editor-in-chief Saskia Bonger of the Delft university magazine Delta, who was nominated for Dutch Journalist of the Year. She featured on a shortlist of three candidates.

The journalism magazine Villamedia chose not Saskia Bonger, but Saskia Belleman as Journalist of the Year. Belleman is renowned as the crystal-clear court reporter for De Telegraaf, often appearing on talk shows. The jury particularly praised her podcast ‘Zij is van mij’ (She’s mine), which raises awareness of femicide, or the murder of women.
Bonger
“Alongside Belleman, Saskia Bonger was also in contention for the title”, wrote Chris Helt, the editor-in-chief of Villamedia, on LinkedIn, “because she stood up for her magazine Delta and her staff when TU Delft put them under legal pressure.”
Last March, a damning inspection report was released regarding social safety at the university. A month later, the university magazine was forced to take down an article about social safety under significant legal threat. Bonger received much appreciation for her stance during the conflict.
The third nominee from Villamedia was Ellen de Visser for her article ‘Wat vrouwen niet mogen weten over hun eigen borsten’ (What women aren’t allowed to know about their own breasts). In it, she highlights how women are disadvantaged in healthcare.
