Pro-Palestina protest at Rotterdam Central: ‘I would have liked to protest on campus’
Over 400 people attended the solidarity protest for Palestine. In response to the closure of buildings on campus Woudestein, students moved the protest to Rotterdam Central.
“It’s ridiculous that the university is afraid of us because we wanted to hold a peaceful protest,” says student Jasper Schut of student union STUUR. The fear is unfounded, adds alumnus Ilyas. “As you can see for yourself, the activists are very peaceful.”
Student Jim regrets that the action is not taking place on campus. “The demands are for the university, so I would have liked to protest on campus.” Still, the students feel that the protest at Central Station is no less successful. “So many people come to this protest, even if it is moved at such short notice. It sends a very strong signal to our university that we no longer accept their complicity in the genocide in Palestine,” says Jasper.
