Mozaik president Selda dedicates her time supporting first-generation students
Selda Şahin is the president of student association Mozaik. The assocation was involved in providing books and supplies to people affected by the earthquake in Turkey last year.
Furthermore, Selda arranged the Grand Iftar, an event in which first-generation students can connect with other students and expand their network in university. Her event gathered 750 students with diverse backgrounds.
Being the first of her family to attend university she understands the struggles first-generation students have. “You can feel very lonely when you first go to university. During my bachelor’s programme, this was something I learned for myself.”
Her combined efforts from organizing an alumni event and aiding to people affected by the earthquake earned her a nomination for the Student of the Year.
