Fleur and Emma wanted to help students who felt helpless and lost after the attack at the Education Centre
Fleur Wilbrink (23) and Emma Verheggen (23) are nominated together for Student of the Year for their buddy programme for first-year Erasmus MC students struggling with the events from attack at Erasmus MC.
The aim of the buddy program was to pair senior students with first years and help them acclimate to university life. Their programme received overwhelming positive results – over 200 seniors registered to for the buddy position, earning them a nomination.
They felt sympathetic towards students who started university just few months prior to the attack. Fleur says: “If I had experienced something like the attack, I would have felt unsafe too. I would have loved to have a buddy to show me the fun aspects of the university.”
