Rotterdam student to lead LSVb

21-year-old EUR student Elisa Weehuizen will be the new president of the Landelijke Studentenvakbond (Dutch Student Union). Her fellow board members are from Amsterdam, Breda, Utrecht and Nijmegen.

The new board was elected this weekend and is now being onboarded. Officially, they will start on 24 June. New president Weehuizen is currently a board member at the Association of Students of African Heritage (ASAH) and sits in the programme committee of her Sociology studies at Erasmus University. She plans to focus, among other things, on student funding, housing and ‘worrying conditions that seem to be the norm for international students’.

Political scientists

23-year-old Job Vermaas will become vice president. He studies Political science at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He was previously a board member at student union ASVA and a member of the central student council at his university.

Julia van der Haring (also 23) will be a general board member. She is also studying Political science, but at Radboud University Nijmegen. This year, she worked at the union’s secretariat and was active for the PvdA’s youth organisation, the Young Socialists.

Hbo members

Assala Driouichi (20) will be secretary. She studies Chemistry at Avans University of Applied Sciences in Breda. There, she was named Student of the Year 2022 for her commitment to greater inclusion. She also has a seat in the Avans participation council.

The other HBO student on the new board is Linda Huisman (22). She will be treasurer and studies Built environment at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, where she is on the college council. She has administrative experience at student union VIDIUS, where she also served as treasurer.

The LSVb’s counterpart, the Interstedelijk Studenten Overleg, will elect a new board on Friday.
