Campus Talk: ‘I don’t even know what’s in my rental agreement’
“I live in a student house with five others,” says philosophy student Pia Bosveld, who has been waiting almost a year for a broken window to be repaired. “We have an intermediary with whom we have a lot of problems. He doesn’t really respond to our messages.”
Not knowing the rights
Most students admit that they do not know their rights as a tenant. “I don’t even know what’s in my rental agreement,” admits psychology student Kaina Hooi. “I know I have rights, I just don’t know exactly what they are.”
Economics student Marques Jose Tjowasi does have a tip: “Especially for international students who cannot view the house in advance, renting from a housing corporation is much safer and easier than from a private individual.”
