Students on Facebook study less
Not entirely surprisingly perhaps; students who spend more time on Facebook, spend less time on studying. Research in America shows that the study results of students with a Facebook account are on average half a point lower than those of other students.
The Facebook students spend one to five hours per week on studying whereas the other group spends eleven to fifteen hours on studying. Still, the 148 Facebook students who were questioned do not believe the virtual network has a negative effect on their results. The American researcher who investigated the matter could not actually prove that being on Facebook regularly leads to poorer study results. “Some students would just as easily find other excuses not to study and consequently receive lower grades anyway”, says researcher Aryn Karpinski. She does not have a Facebook account herself. “It would be too much of a distraction for me”, she says. HOP
