EUR among world’s top 100 universities

Erasmus University is climbing the ranks of the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking faster than any other European university: moving from place 157 in 2011 all the way to 72.

Dutch universities are doing well. Leiden (64), Utrecht (67), Wageningen (70), Delft (78), Amsterdam (UvA) (83), and Groningen (89) are celebrating their spot in the top 100. Tilburg is the only Dutch university that is not part of the best two hundred.

‘Ray of hope’

According to Phil Baty, ranking editor at THE, Dutch universities are a ‘ray of hope’.“There is no Dutch university among the top 50, but all of them are part of the best in the world. That is remarkable. And it poses a dilemma for other countries: should they invest in one top of the line university or should they follow the Dutch example”, says Baty.

EUR’s progress

The progress of the EUR can partially be explained with a higher rating for reputation. Frequently, big changes like this are the result of adjustments to the methodology. To a certain extent that explains the high ranking of Dutch universities at this point. A new method has been employed to rate the composition of university staff. TF
