Campus Talk: Do you know Jan Tinbergen?
As a student at Erasmus University you have hopefully heard of Jan Tinbergen before – after all, one of the tallest building on campus is named after him. To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary since Jan Tinbergen won the Nobel prize, reporter Pietro Vigilanza quizzed students around campus on their knowledge of one of the finest professors Erasmus University has ever had.
Do students know who Jan Tinbergen is? Some students were caught completely unaware, such as student Alexandra (Management of International Social Challenges). “I know that the Tinbergen Building is named after him, but I’m sorry to say that I really don’t know what he did”. Economics student Armien Zare was very fond of Tinbergen’s contribution: “I’m an economics students so I know who he is. For my masters I also want to study Econometrics, so I hope that I will get to know more about his work.”
