Two years of juvenile detention and six years placement under a hospital order for rape of EUR student
The court decided to apply adolescent criminal law. According to the court, this is because F. ‘has suffered serious development delay and has been traumatised by violence, neglect and abuse.’ He had just turned 18 at the time of the act. Now 19, the Rotterdam resident has been sentenced to two years’ juvenile detention and six years’ juvenile involuntary placement and treatment in a high-security institution.

The Public Prosecution Service had demanded seven years’ imprisonment and involuntary placement and treatment. According to the Public Prosecutor, adolescent criminal law is deemed ‘insufficient’ on account of the serious nature of the case. The student was attacked and raped in front of her home in the Esch, almost dying as a result. She was rushed to the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. The student has received 50,000 euros in compensation.
F. had already confessed to raping the EUR student. An exact DNA match was found between the Rotterdam resident and the traces found at the site of the rape.
