Half of students unable to find important information about their studies

Half of students cannot always find the right and relevant announcements amid the mass of information on the university’s many platforms. According to a university survey amongst 1,400 students.

There is far too much information. This is students’ main complaint about the information provided by the university. Important announcements are mainly shared via Canvas, email, the faculty app and MyEUR. Students receive so much information from different platforms that they often lose track of what matters. The same messages are also sometimes shared on several platforms, causing further confusion.

This is evident from a survey conducted by the university last summer among 1,400 students. Participants did find information about enrolment easy to locate. But they found it much harder to find information about internships. And only half of students open their emails.

It is not known how the information provision is working for the nearly 30,000 students who did not complete the survey. It was sent by email twice to all students at every faculty. The university also promoted it on social media and on screens around campus. In addition, it handed out ice creams and mini pancakes to students who completed the survey on the spot.

Various solutions

Students who did manage to find the survey said they would like a clearer overview. There is good news for them: the university is working on several solutions. A central overview is planned, where users will be able to find all the important information in one place. It should also become clearer which platform is intended for which type of information. The university also wants to stop sending duplicate announcements. It is not yet known when the solutions will be introduced.
