Desperate for cooling, a student even robs her dog

The Exam Centre is full of struggling students doing resits. So there’s still plenty of studying to do, even with your student room at sauna-like temperatures. Students are finding creative solutions, from cheap handheld fans to a stolen dog pool.

A student eating lunch on the edge of the campus pond is having a rough time. “It does get very warm inside, so I study outside as much as possible.” In the Theil building a student is desperately searching for just one thing: “There is no air conditioning at home, there is no air conditioning in the buildings, but the library has it. So that’s where we’re going!”

A student who has just walked out of the Exam Centre has a budget tip: “They sell those little handheld fans for under 10 euros.” An eating student on Tinbergenplein has a tip your surroundings might especially appreciate. “Always make sure you have deodorant with you, because you’re going to smell.”

For a student close by it’s every person for themselves in this extreme heat. She has stolen from her very own dog. “I took his dog pool away from him, filled it with water and sat in it. The dog can stay inside.”
