Harvard changes name of diversity department
Harvard’s Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is getting a new name. It appears to be a concession to Donald Trump, who is pressuring American universities to abandon their ‘leftist’ diversity programmes.

Two weeks ago, the Trump administration made clear that it would cut the billion-dollar subsidy to Harvard, unless the prestigious university adjusted its policies. The White House wants to continue funding only if it can intervene in the selection process for students, staff and researchers at the university. All of the university’s diversity measures have to come to an end.
Lawsuit
Harvard refused to give up its independence and filed a lawsuit against the decision. While awaiting the ruling, the board opted on Monday to change the name of the university’s DEI department to the Department of Community and Campus life.
Sherri Ann Charleston, chief diversity officer of Harvard, stated that the university must bring people together based on their backgrounds and perspectives, not because they belong to a specific demographic group. Charleston’s position has also been renamed: she is now the chief community and campus life officer.
Also, Harvard promises to adjust its policies in response to two critical internal reports on antisemitism and islamophobia on campus. According to Harvard president Alan Garber, everyone should feel at home at the university.
