In times of budget cuts, should the university abolish Christmas gifts?

The festive month of December is just around the corner. Traditionally, the university hands out Christmas gifts to its thousands of staff members at the end of the year. But now that dark financial clouds loom over higher education, the question arises: should the university cut back on the Christmas gifts?

Should we even reduce spending on Christmas-related festivities at all? Do you really enjoy wandering through the Christmas market with colleagues? How important is the Christmas gifts to you? And if the university were to scrap it, where do you think the money should be allocated instead?
