Riot police called in for new occupation in Amsterdam, protests elsewhere as well

At the University of Amsterdam, masked pro-Palestinian protesters have entered a building following the previously announced walk-out. They have barricaded the building and have vandalised it. The riot police has taken action.

This morning at 11 AM, students and staff of the UvA took part in a nationwide walk-out. They went outside to show their solidarity with pro-Palestinian protesters who were forcibly removed from the Amsterdam campus on Roeterseiland by the police last week.

Vandalism

University magazine Folia reports that the doors of the REC ABC building are barricaded, tents have been put up and the building has been vandalised. In a statement, the UvA says the protesters ‘seem to be preparing for an occupation’. The UvA has filed a report. According to Het Parool, the riot police has entered the building.

Protests are taking place at other universities as well. In Maastricht and in Delft, about a hundred students and staff members took part in the walk-out.

At Radboud University, some hundred students and staff members gathered as well. On a patch of grass next to the building of the Faculty of Social Sciences, protesters have put up several tents and speeches are being held. The activists don’t intend to leave until their demands have been met, writes VOX.

Tent camps have been put up in Eindhoven and Groningen as well. The Eindhoven protesters don’t intend to leave until their demands have been met. The Groningen protesters aren’t talking to the press, reports UKrant, but the atmosphere seemed pleasant.

At Wageningen University, around three hundred students and staff members came together in protest. It was a peaceful affair, according to Resource.

The only thing action group Enschede Students for Palestine did, according to U-Today, was draft an open letter to the board. The letter says that the University of Twente is to ‘stop cooperating with companies and institutions that facilitate the violence in the Gaza Strip’.
