Half of students do not show up after booking study places

The university is currently offering a very limited number of study places on campus for students who are unable to study properly at home. You can book one of the scarce places, but 50 percent of students don’t show up at the time they’ve booked, stated Sandra Klarenbeek, Head of the Education Support Department during an Erasmus TV broadcast on Tuesday morning.

This means that just a small proportion of the study places in the Tinbergen building are occupied, while demand is huge. However, the university does not want to impose sanctions on absentees. Rector Magnificus Rutger Engels calls this a ‘start-up problem’ and expects students to start modifying their behaviour when they realise the consequences.

Study places in Tinbergen building are available in the PC rooms. Half the computers are cordoned off with tape and some rows are not available for students, bringing the capacity of the floor to just fifty places. The university will offer fifty extra study places at the University Library starting from Tuesday. These also need to be reserved.
