The university reopens ‘step by step’ from 15 June
Slowly but surely Erasmus University is reopening. That’s what Hans Smits, chairman of the Executive Board, said on Erasmus TV on Thursday morning. “We’re developing a plan. That’s quite a challenge. For every building, every floor, lifts, staircases and the outlying area we are designing a 1.5-metre university.”

The plans must be ready before June 15, says Smits. After 15 June, these plans will be assessed and it will be decided how they will be put into practice. “That way we can open up a little bit from then on. Working from home remains a priority until 1 September, but for the welfare of our students, the library has already been opened (for borrowing and handing in books, ed.) last Monday.”
Smits refers to the well-being of students and staff because of a survey among students and staff that showed that two thirds of students and almost 60 percent of staff feel stressed. “That’s what we’re worried about,” he says. Opening up a little helps, according to the survey, he argues.
Sports and library
From Thursday, the tennis courts and the beach volleyball court will be open again. Students can make reservations to play sports there. The library also opened for borrowing and returning books and the childcare facilities opened up again, in line with the Cabinet measures. “The library will open step by step for students next week,” says Smits.
Addition on Thursday 14 May, 3:00 pm:”After 15 June, these plans will be assessed and it will be decided how they will be put into practice.”
