Students in the ICU: ‘We’ll guide each other through these difficult times’
Video is in Dutch, subtitles aren’t available yet. We are working on this. For the time being, you can try the Youtube auto-translated subtitles.
Merve is 22 years old, master’s student in Medicine and team leader of the students in intensive care. Because of the corona crisis, the intensive care has expanded considerably and so has the amount of work for the students. “I’m actually there every day. It’s hard work, but it also gives me a lot of satisfaction.”
The students replenish supplies, keep the ward tidy and support the nursing staff wherever they can. “We help, for example, with the care of patients, the ‘turning’ of patients, and reporting things,” says Merve in the vlog. Normally, students do about three evening shifts a week, which is now more than five.
Tomorrow part 2
The next episode is Tuesday, then you’ll meet Robbert-Jan Council. He normally walks around the OR, but due to the influx of covid-19-patients he now also works in the ICU.
