Joël S. confesses to stabbing of Sarah
Joël S., the suspect in the case involving the death of Sarah Papenheim, confessed to the fatal stabbing of the 21-year old EUR student. That became known during the preliminary hearing in the court of Rotterdam on Friday morning. S. acknowledges responsibility but is unable to recall much of the events. He remains on remand.

The American psychology student died from stab wounds on 12 December 2018. She was found at home after the mother of the suspect contacted the police. S. had called his mother and told her that he had stabbed a flatmate.
Suspect Joël S. was Sarah’s flatmate; the two shared an apartment in housing complex De Snor on Kralingse Kerklaan.
Remand
S. is currently in custody in Scheveningen prison, where he is undergoing psychological tests. Forensic tests are also ongoing. The current enquiries will certainly last until the end of May. The next hearing in this case will probably be on 18 June.
