Wednesday 13 December we received the very sad news that Samantha Adams had passed away. Sam spent a number of years working at Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) where she obtained her doctorate in 2006 for her dissertation on the reliability of medical information on the internet. Since that time, Sam continued conducting research into how the role of patients could be enhanced using ICT.

She was a pioneer in research related to the role of social media in healthcare. Sam also played a significant role in education at ESHPM where she was the coordinator of the Health Policy & Management bachelor programme. She also introduced writing skills training and was the coordinator of education in qualitative research methods.

Sam worked for some years at Tilburg University as an associate professor and just last year, she became a mother. Sam was an inspiring colleague and lecturer, a trailblazer in research, and a friend. She will be greatly missed by us all. We would like to offer our condolences to her family and wish them strength in bearing this great loss.
