Van Leeuwen to become the new dean of Erasmus MC

Hans van Leeuwen, Professor of Internal Medicine, will become the new dean of Erasmus MC. He will succeed Jaap Verweij, who has held the position since 2013, on 1 September.
Hans van Leeuwen studied biology at VU Amsterdam, then obtained his doctorate from Leiden University. He has worked for Erasmus MC as a staff member of, and researcher at, the Internal Medicine department since 1988. He has since headed a research programme on calcium and bone metabolism and the Internal Medicine laboratories, amongst others. Hans van Leeuwen has served as deputy dean of Research and Director of Research and Education since 2015.
Jaap Verweij steps down after a four-year term as dean. He will be granted emeritus status in the course of 2018, but will be reinstated as a professor of and specialist in internal oncology until that time.
