Campus closed during Feyenoord’s championship match

All the buildings on campus Woudestein will be closed on Sunday 7 May. If Feyenoord beats Excelsior on that day, they can become champions of the eredivisie. Normally, the Polak building, sports building and parts of the food court are open on a Sunday.

The closure also applies to the parking garage beneath Erasmus Plaza. Only campus residents will be allowed in. In addition, car traffic won’t be allowed, and a walking route is set across campus for fans who want to go to the stadium coming from metro station Kralingse Zoom.

The university is taking this preventative measure in consultation with the police because of the match between Excelsior and Feyenoord, which is due to be played in Woudestein stadium on that day. On Tuesday, the university consulted the Rotterdam police about possible security measures.

Many more supporters expected

If they win, Feyenoord will become eredivisie champions for the first time in eighteen years. For that reason, many more supporters are expected than the 4,000 which the small stadium can accommodate. The Excelsior stadium is directly opposite the campus on Burgemeester Oudlaan.
