Saying goodbye to: Erasmus Sport

“For 28 years and 7 months, I was a member of the board of Erasmus Sport. In my day job, I’m a lawyer and that’s what I do to earn money. Being on the board of Erasmus Sport is what I enjoy doing. As a high school student, I had a part-time job too, so no difference there. It’s my way of giving something back to society. Over the years, Erasmus Sport has changed and I’m proud of the result. Around 10,000 students have a sports pass and the sports facilities score well compared with other student sport centres.

My game is golf. The nice thing about golf is that it’s the only sport you can play with someone who may be much better or worse than you are. The handicap levels things off. I play golf tournaments in a team, though. That’s when you realise how much support you receive – and give – to your fellow team members. You’re only as good as the group. My style of managing is similar to how I play golf. I feel that I’m good at bringing people together and motivating them. I like being able to do that. I don’t need to sit in the director’s seat. I’m happy just being a sparring partner.
I don’t know what the future will bring. Perhaps I’ll go travelling with my wife with our bags on our backs. Backpacking? Haha no, I was talking golf bags.”
