Former Erasmus MC professor Gerrit S. sentenced to 1.5 years in prison
The former professor of Oncology, Gerrit S., has been sentenced to 1.5 years in prison. The judge felt there was sufficient evidence to prove that for many years he had been guilty of tax evasion and money laundering, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports.
For many years, Gerrit S., who was a professor at Erasmus MC until 2008, had payments made by pharmaceutical companies directly into a secret account in Luxembourg to avoid having to pay tax on it.
The retired professor was the first ‘black saver’ to appear in court. During a raid last year, the Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) confiscated a small private plane, two mortgage-free apartments in Amsterdam, a Mercedes and approximately 770,000 euros in cash. The cash was hidden in ventilation shafts in his house.
