Dies Natalis Sports Week: Beginners prove they can hit a ball

To close off the Dies Natalis festivities in style, beginning tennis players were invited to hit a few balls at Erasmus University’s tennis courts. On a nice and sunny autumn day, fourth-year law student Yara Rietveld was one of the lucky people strutting their stuff. By dint of winning the most games out of all the female participants, she became the winner of the beginners’ tournament.

Yara is clearly the sporty type. In addition to playing tennis at Erasmus Sports, she plays volleyball with Erasmus Volley, where she is also on the Board. “A friend persuaded me to try tennis, on top of playing volleyball,” she said. “I’ve been playing for about a year now, and I’m loving it!”
