Tram-poes Ake dies at age 12

Tram-poes Ake died last Monday. He almost reached the age of 13. The cat, who was a permanent resident at the Oude Plantage tram stop, died from the consequences of an ear infection.
The cat was the focus of international media attention this year, thanks to the popular Facebook page on which people travelling on trams 21 and 24 and passing students posted photos of the black and white cat. Ake even had his own T-shirt line.
Updates about his ear infection were also posted on the Facebook page. With no more news forthcoming, over the past month visitors to the page kept asking how Ake was doing. Condolences have been flooding in since Wednesday morning.
