Erasmus MC hall temporarily evacuated due to fake bomb

The central hall of Erasmus MC was evacuated for some time on Monday afternoon due to a suspicious package found on the premises. The Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) ultimately established that it was a fake bomb.
The package was found around 1 p.m. in one of the toilet stalls at Erasmus MC. This led to the immediate evacuation of the staff and visitors present in the hall. A police team investigated the package to determine its contents. This included deploying a detection dog that is trained to sniff out explosives.
The ‘bomb’ eventually turned out to be a toy alarm looking like two dynamite sticks. All in all, the evacuation of the central hall and the closure of the building’s main entrance lasted around 90 minutes. Access to Erasmus MC has been fully restored at present.
