Campus supermarket wins entrepreneurs’ award
Managers Erwin Binneveld and Mirjam Bestebreurtje at the Spar supermarket on Woudestein Campus have won the ZO2Z Award with their supermarket concept. This is awarded every two years in a competition presented by Het Vakcentrum trade association.
The jury’s report is extremely positive: “Mr Binneveld and Ms Bestebreurtje display amazing vision in the way they run the three supermarkets at high-traffic locations on student campuses. They have a futuristic outlook.” According to the jury, these supermarkets stand out from the rest with their ‘unique product range, unique colour formulas, great music and tremendous involvement’, and they are also ‘the only supermarkets with self-service checkouts only’.
The jury assessed the participating supermarkets on a number of points including entrepreneurship, sustainability, their attitude to young consumers and their local involvement. The jury also evaluated customer and employee satisfaction at the supermarkets.
The two entrepreneurs manage supermarkets on campus at Utrecht University and VU University Amsterdam as well as at Erasmus University Rotterdam. They plan to open two more in the near future: one in Eindhoven and one in Delft. ES
