The most prestigious student rowing regatta in the Netherlands is coming up. On Sunday April 6th, university teams will compete against each other on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal.

The student rowing association from Rotterdam, Skadi, won the most important student regatta five times in a row. The ‘Skadianen’ became winners in every Varsity from 2006 until 2010. Last year, they finished in third place. Board member Minke Huizenga said the boat would be able to win a gold medal within two years. And that is about time, because the last three editions were won by Nereus, from Amsterdam.

Student tradition

The Varsity is one of the most traditional student events in the Netherlands. It exists since 1878 and was held every year since then, with exception of 1879 and the Second World War. Erasmus Sport organizes a trip to this years’ Varsity. For € 15 students will get the transport and entrance ticket to the rowing regatta.
