University goes bilingual
In 2018 bilingualism will be the norm at this university. This is stated in the new Strategic Plan 2014-2018.
In 2018 all ‘internal and external communication will be in English and Dutch’. Therefore all Dutch staff will be tested on their English skills in the coming six months. Depending on the result they may or may not have to follow an English language course relevant for their function and desired level.
Likewise, international staff may have to take Dutch courses to improve their language skills where necessary. This primarily concerns ISS and RSM staff. Non-Dutch scientists are exempt from the mandated Dutch courses. Researchers will not be obligated to learn Dutch, but they will be motivated to do so in order to improve integration, according to the university. WG
