Spring starts with cold temperatures
Spring started yesterday, according to the calendar. However, the grey sky and relatively cold temperatures are not indicative of an end to winter.
The first day of spring evokes images of flowers blooming and birds flapping through azure skies. But winter does not seem to be ready to release its grip just yet.
Coldest first day of spring since 1985
In the Netherlands, the maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 2,7 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest first day of spring since 1985. According to Weeronline.nl, temperatures will stay below normal through the weekend.
Ready for spring
“I am pretty sick of winter and ready for spring,” says Megha Pandit, a Finance and Investments student from India. “I can’t wait to finally catch some sun and enjoy outdoor life.”
Vernal Equinox
The first day of spring, also known as the Vernal Equinox, is the day of the year when the sun is directly overhead at the equator and falls on March 20th or 21st every year. NL
