For the first time in its history, this year’s STAR Management Week offers a recruitment event for German students only. Being one of the largest business events in the Benelux, the STAR Management Week is the annual highlight at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) and takes place this year from October 9 to October 18.

Traditionally, most business events organized by the Erasmus University have focused on Dutch rather than international students. In the context of this year’s STAR Management Week, however, German companies, including Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, are organizing an In-house Day exclusively for German RSM students. The event will take place in Frankfurt on October 11 and October 12, giving German students the opportunity to learn more about the companies. STAR organizes the transport by bus from Rotterdam to Frankfurt and back.

Purpose of a German Recruitment event

Being ranked 7th out of all European Business schools, RSM attracts a great amount of international students of which about 30 percent come from Germany. German students thus represent the largest minority on campus. According to Joost Kamermans, the Commissioner of Marketing & PR of the Star Management Week 2012 and one of the organizers of the German Recruitment event, an event targeted at German students was included in the program due to the international character of RSM. Moreover, STAR has received many requests from German students.

Reasons to participate

According to Joost Kamermans, most German students studying in the Netherlands would like to return to their home country for work. However, there have not been any recruitment events in Germany for German students studying in the Netherlands. The German Recruitment event as part of the STAR Management Week is thus their only opportunity to attend a recruitment activity. Moreover, the companies participating in the event are perceived as prestigious by German students. “I think it is great that STAR provides us with the opportunity to get in touch with top companies like Roland Berger. I am interested in consulting and the German Recruitment event makes it a lot easier to get to know people within the field,” said Marisa Scaffidi, a German RSM student. NL
