Over the past few years, relatively few IBCoM students have been actively involved in the Faculty Association of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication – Histartes – due to misperception and a lack of communication. However, a positive trend can be observed as Histartes is working on improving IBCoM involvement.
As part of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, IBCoM students are encouraged to participate in the Faculty Association Histartes. Unfortunately, however, relatively few IBCoM students have been actively involved in the past few years. For many international IBCoM students, their lack of involvement has to do with the perception that Histartes is a Dutch organization for Dutch students only. That, however, is not the case. As a Faculty Association, Histartes represents all students of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication.
Positive trends
Histartes is working on improving their ties to IBCoM students, and has achieved great progress. Ten IBCoM students were active in committees last year, and this year, Tainah Bernardino, a second year IBCoM student, is on the Histartes board as editor-in-chief. According to Histartes’s current vice chairman, Georgios Kostoulas, the number of IBCoM students joining Histartes will increase annually and outperform the other Bachelor programs of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication within one or two years. A new vice chairman will be announced in December, and Georgios Kostoulas would like his successor to be an IBCoM student in order for all Bachelor programs of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication to be equally represented on the Histartes six-man board.
Benefits
Certainly, joining Histartes holds a number of advantages for IBCoM students. In addition to receiving a discount on study books, Histartes provides students with the opportunity to actively participate in the organization of diverse activities ranging from city trips to student parties. Histartes thus serves as a medium for personal growth and leadership development, and is a means for building friendships and a network of contacts. “I have met great people and have gained great experience by working in Histartes committees,” says Aeyondi Dorant, a second year IBCoM student and Histartes member.
