For Aspiring Journalists and Strategists
Ready to put your hard-learned knowledge to a test? EM found a couple of challenges that you might undertake this year to prove that all the time spent in the library has not gone to waste. The Delta Alliance and the Real World Magazine are both offering opportunities (and awards!) that simply cannot be missed.
Sustainable Competition
First, the Delta Alliance Young Professionals Award is a competition where students from a variety of fields are invited to come up with creative solutions to solve the challenges that deltas around the world encounter. Even people with an economic or a communications background may participate, as long as you can combine a couple of environmental issues in a creative way and solve the problems that arise by reconciling the ecologic, economic and social worlds. The award is quite pleasing – a trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June, 2012 for the Rio +20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, and a possibility to make your further work on your proposal and receive guidance from an international institute. The deadline is the 31st of March and for more details, check the web page.
Writing about career
Second, the Real World Magazine, the largest UK student magazine, is going international. They have recently opened up for contributions from any hopeful journalists in a variety of languages. The topic of the next issue – building your career by utilizing online toold. So if you have any valuable information or want to share your own tips and tricks of how you’ve made a staggering career through LinkedIn, drop the editors a line. The deadline for English articles is upcoming – February 10th, but French (February 24th) and German (March 9th) have more time. Get busy writing and get your foot into the publishing world’s door. In this case, awards are intrinsic and of course add value to your resume. More information on the website. MD
