While family members were welcomed and given a cup of coffee in the Etude restaurant, on the other side of the curtains, the EUR’s PhD Student of the Year was announced and given an award.
Out of eight students, the jury was most impressed with Luc Coffeng of the Department of Public Health at Erasmus MC. His research into the infectious disease of river blindness, or Robles’ Disease, which causes great suffering in the Third World, and his volunteer work for an NGO concerned with the health of children in the Third World, proved a winning combination.
