More culpable errors discovered in articles by Smeesters
The EUR has done follow up research to the fraud by Dirk Smeesters and discovered culpable inaccuracies in research practice in four articles. The articles are being nominated for withdrawal.
Smeesters was professor of Consumer and Society at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) until June 2012. The Committee on Scientific Integrity (CWI) which was instituted in November 2012 looked at a total of 22 publications.
In June 2012, it was already known that there was no confidence in the scientific integrity of three articles. Two of those have been withdrawn by the journals involved, and one has not been published. For both research papers the raw data which formed the basis of the articles was no longer available. Smeesters reported that he had lost them.
The research report of the CWI can be read here.
