This year\u2019s edition of the Keuzegids voor Universiteiten<\/em> (\u2018Choice Guide for Higher Education\u2019) just came out, and the picture it paints of our Law programme is pretty grim. Students gave it the lowest marks of any EUR programme, and it also found at the bottom of the national ranking for Law programmes. Whereas in 2016, EUR Law still achieved a score of 58 out of 100, this has currently dropped to 34.<\/p>\n

A large part of the Keuzegids<\/em> score is based on the findings of the Nationale Studenten Enqu\u00eate (NSE), an annual survey that asks students to evaluate their degree programme. According to the guide, the Law programme\u2019s main problems lie with its facilities, examination procedures and students\u2019 academic development. Three Law students share their views on the disappointing evaluation.<\/p>\n

How do you like the programme so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cUp till now, I\u2019ve found it enjoyable and interesting. The first year was quite stressful \u2013 particularly because I didn\u2019t start too well. My results during the first few months wouldn\u2019t have earned me a pass score. Once I had made up for them, I felt a lot less stress and the workload became manageable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why do you think the programme scored as poorly as it did?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, I think one of the reasons is that EUR is pretty strict when it comes to its 60-credit norm, on top of which they really throw you in at the deep end. There is very little \u2018face time\u2019 and you\u2019re expected to do a lot on your own. Some students take a bit longer getting used to this than others, and it can cause some issues. On top of which you only have one examination per subject, so each time round it\u2019s basically win or lose.\u201d<\/p>\n
