An amendment designed to undo the measure that will result in interest rates on student loans being raised failed to get a majority of the votes in the Lower House on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Henk Nijboer, an MP for PvdA, and Chris Stoffer, an MP for SGP, proposed that instead of increasing<\/a> the interest rate on student loans, the so-called \u2018expat subsidy\u2019 should be amended. Nijboer and Stoffer feel that this tax break for foreign academics should be cancelled, effective 2020, for people whose annual income exceeds \u20ac178,000.<\/p>\n
