The winners of the <em>85 hour Student Film Project<\/em>, seven students from the WILDe Theatre, were to take away these words of praise from the jury. Their thriller\u00a0<em><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eac1b5ys1jI\">The Door<\/a><\/u><\/em>\u00a0won the Jury Prize on Thursday. Each team was given 84 hours to make the film, a slightly easier, reversed variant of the traditional 48 hours of professional competitions. The jury was made up of Harm Smit, Lecturer in Media and Business at Inholland, Annemarie van Waterschoot from the professional variant\u00a0<em>48 hour film project Rotterdam<\/em>\u00a0and Asli \u00d6zgen, Lecturer in Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam. Apart from <em>The Door<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Psalami<\/em>, two other films were shown: the sci-filike\u00a0<em><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UVwVioR7aRI\">Alex from abroad<\/a><\/u><\/em>, which contains stop-motion animation, and <em><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oad6DjgLHvs\">OFFER<\/a><\/u><\/em>, a horror story about two housemates, with stomach-churning special effects.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Toying with the audience<\/h2>\n\t<div data-name=\"acf\/quote\" class=\"align\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"\">\n\t\t\t<figure data-component=\"quote-with-author\" class=\"@container\">\n\t<blockquote class=\"text-md italic @2xl:text-xl @4xl:text-2xl text-purple\">\n\t\tWho is this Santiago character? The film tells the story of a female student who kills her boyfriend and then takes her own life. Anyway, that\u2019s what it looks like. \u201cThey toy with the audience,\u201d Smit clarified the jury\u2019s choice. \u201cYou think you\u2019ve finally got a grip on the story and then there\u2019s another twist in the story and you\u2019ve lost your grip again. We thought it was a very intelligent film.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to producer Thelonious Schairer-Penny, that\u2019s exactly what we had in mind. \u201cWe wanted people to use their imagination and come up with their own explanation of what\u00a0<em>The Door <\/em>wants to convey,\u201d says Schairer-Penny, who assumed the roles of writer, actor and director. \u201cWho is this Santiago character? Why did the No\u00e9mie character hang herself? What was the click in the background all about? The viewers can decide for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While they were shooting, WILDe\u2019s troupers had to \u201cshift gears\u201d. \u201cThe main difference with theatrical productions is that you use the camera to direct how the viewer experiences the story. After his world comes crashing down, the student decides to change his life\u2019s course and \u201csweat for Jesus\u201d. \u201cIn this film, we tried to turn a perfectly normal phenomenon into an absurd situation,\u201d says Laanen, who wrote the script and played the lead role. \u201cIt was a real challenge to combine all the ingredients into a compelling story,\u201d says Gasimov, who was responsible for shooting and editing the film. \u201cWe wanted the set ingredients to form an integral part of a logical story, not just stuck in the plot somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2
