University lecturer Sophie van der Zee from the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) developed a method for recognising deceitful behaviour. Using, among other things, motion capture suits, that are used in Hollywood to convert human movements into realistic animations, she analyses non-verbal behaviour that indicates lying. She worked with the BBC to make the documentary A week of living truthfully<\/em>about her research, which will be aired this autumn.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, she has been nominated for the title <\/span>New Scientist Science Talent 2018<\/span><\/a><\/span>. In an effort to drum up votes, she appeared at the \u2018free market\u2019 (vrijmarkt) in Utrecht on King\u2019s Day with a large sign saying: \u2018Ask me anything you want to know about lying\u2019. \u201cPeople often want to state their opinion about lying politicians and always seem to know how to recognise if their partner is cheating on them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t
