Looking for a theme for this year\u2019s carnaval<\/em> celebrations, one of the fraternities of the student association Eindhovens Studenten Corps (ESC) decided on a #metoo parody: \u2018De wil van de vrouw doet er #nietoo\u2019 (\u2018a woman\u2019s consent is irrelevant\u2019). This pun cost ESC dear, however: Eindhoven University has cancelled all funding for the association.<\/p>\n

In the invite for their party, Aleph wrote that they thought it was \u2018wonderful\u2019 that three out of four women nowadays occasionally feel assaulted. \u201cThe fact that since 1958, we\u2019ve been able to feel up women without asking first is a luxury that other men have not been able to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n

This should be considered the club\u2019s attempt to \u2018put an end\u2019 to the #metoo movement. \u201cBecause at Aleph, we are aware, just like the rest, that women have no say over what happens to their bodies during carnaval<\/em>. That\u2019s why we present, with forced love, \u2018de wil van de vrouw doet er #nietoo!\u2019\u201d The invitation is decorated with fictitious blurbs by, among others, Kevin Spacey and Marc Dutroux: \u201cVery spacious basement\u201d.<\/p>\n

After talking with corps <\/em>representatives on Tuesday, Eindhoven University decided to put all funding for the association on hold, with immediate effect. A university spokesperson is unable to say how long this suspension will last: \u201cIt depends on which measures the association will be implementing. They\u2019re taking this matter very seriously too.\u201d<\/p>\n

No longer welcome<\/h2>

Indeed, ESC has released a statement in which it claims to be \u2018extremely upset\u2019 about this affair and \u2019emphatically asserts that a theme like this has nothing to do with the standards and values upheld by Eindhovens Studenten Corps\u2019.<\/p>\n

The corps<\/em> has asked its own \u2018judicial board\u2019 to look into and rule on the matter. Until that time, the Aleph members will not be allowed to participate in any of the association\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n

The Dutch student corporations have come under fire these past few weeks. RSC\/RSV in Rotterdam<\/a>\u00a0and UVSV in Utrecht<\/a>\u00a0were dealt with similar suspensions after a broadcast by the television programme Rambam.<\/p>\n\n\t
