{"id":6910,"date":"2015-09-03T11:31:25","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T09:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.erasmusmagazine.nl\/2015\/09\/03\/sp-bussemaker-behandelt-studenten-als-kleuters\/?lang=en"},"modified":"2025-12-19T11:22:23","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T10:22:23","slug":"sp-bussemaker-behandelt-studenten-als-kleuters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.erasmusmagazine.nl\/en\/2015\/09\/03\/sp-bussemaker-behandelt-studenten-als-kleuters\/","title":{"rendered":"SP: \u2018Bussemaker treats students like infants\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Education Bussemaker treats students as if they\u2019re infants, says SP member of the House of Representatives Jasper van Dijk. \u201cShe was full of understanding during the occupation of the Maagdenhuis, but now she\u2019s showing that she hasn\u2019t really understood anything about it at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read an angry article by the SP,\u201d said Minister Bussemaker in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.erasmusmagazine.nl\/2015\/09\/02\/minister-bussemaker-ik-heb-niets-aangepast-vanwege-protesten\/\">interview<\/a> with the Higher Education Press Office (<em>Hoger Onderwijs Persbureau<\/em>) on Wednesday. \u201cThey want students to elect the Executive Board. That is a good idea if you intend to destroy institutions fast.,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his reaction SP member of the House of Representatives Jasper van Dijk stated that Bussemaker\u2019s comments were \u201ca slap in the face for students and lecturers. The height of arrogance.\u201d According to Bussemaker the administration of institutions is too complicated to be left in the hands of students. She\u2019s showing her true face as a \u201crepresentative of the old boys network,\u201d says Van Dijk<em>. <\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cNew legislation is superficial\u201d<\/h3><p>Van Dijk feels that the minister\u2019s attitude is reflected in the <a href=\"http:\/\/profielen.hr.nl\/2015\/kabinet-houdt-medezeggenschap-aan-de-zijlijn\/\">new legislat<\/a><u>ion<\/u> intended to strengthen the influence of students and lecturers. The legislation contains provisions that grant participation in decision-making bodies to the power to issue recommendations for the recruitment of new Executive Board members as well as for the appointment and dismissal of Executive Board members. According to Van Dijk these are \u201cnothing but cosmetic changes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This fall the House of Representatives will hold a debate regarding the legislation, but the SP has drafted its own <u>policy document<\/u> that also contains a proposal to allow students and lecturers to directly elect the Executive Board.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a
