It may have sounded like ‘this is me’, but the recently suspended Palestinian student was not speaking English in his video; he was speaking Arabic, says a translator. She accuses journalists and Maastricht University’s executive board of bias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Palestinian student came to Maastricht from Gaza, but has been suspended following the controversy surrounding a video on Instagram. It shows him watching a broadcast on Al Jazeera<\/em>. He mentions 7 October and then says something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Get me out of here’<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

But what does he say? According to pro-Israel organisation CIDI, he says ‘this is me’, and that is how it has been reported in virtually all the media. In newspaper NRC<\/em>, translator Rahma Bavelaar now writes<\/a> that she hears something else: ‘tasheshny<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t
