The founder of the far-right Vrijmoedige Studentenpartij, Marlon U., must appear in court over the assault of a fellow student. VSP member Reinout V. is also being prosecuted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident took place in a bar on campus of the VU.<\/p><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Last year, an argument broke out in a bar on the campus of the Vrije Universiteit between an international student and Marlon U., the founder of the Vrijmoedige Studentenpartij. During the incident, the student was punched in the face multiple times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Public Prosecution Service is therefore prosecuting Marlon U. and his VSP colleague Reinout V. for public violence and assault with a discriminatory character, the prosecution service said on Friday. The charge against Marlon U. is slightly more serious. According to<\/a> Het Parool<\/em>, U. could face a maximum prison sentence of seven years and V. six years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Punched<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In November, Marlon U. and Reinout V. sang a Nazi song in Bar Boele and were confronted about it by a fellow student. Marlon U. threw beer over him, and the student threw beer back. He was then forced to the ground by U. and punched in the face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the prosecution service, U. also shouted that the victim (of non-Western background) would be ‘deported’. He also insulted a bystander using the n-word. If the prosecution can prove that U. and V. intended to discriminate, judges have been able to impose harsher sentences for this for the past year. The two are due to appear in court in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Psychology student Marlon U. had already displayed aggressive behaviour on the VU campus for some time. In February, students and staff at the university demanded<\/a> that the Executive Board do more to improve safety on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t
