A total of 131,214 people have signed a petition against the slow-progress penalty. <\/span>On Tuesday, the signatures were handed over to the House of Representative under the slogan <\/span>\u2018Goodbye to your fine\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Actually, there were two petitions. One was from opposition party GroenLinks-PvdA, the <\/span>other from the National Union of Students, FNV Young & United, broadcaster BNNVARA <\/span>and news platform De Marker<\/em>. The signatures were combined.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even the youth organisations of government parties VVD and NSC oppose the slow-progress <\/span>penalty that students will soon face if they are more than a year out of their bachelor\u2019s or <\/span>master\u2019s programme. Colleges and universities are also adamantly opposed to the <\/span>introduction.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday, the cabinet will announce its coalition programme. There are no signs yet that the <\/span>plan for the slow-progress penalty will be withdrawn.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t
