According to the Inspectorate of Education, TU Delft has seriously neglected the social safety of its employees. The Executive Board must come up with a recovery plan within three months, warns outgoing Minster of Education Robbert Dijkgraaf.<\/p>\n

A report by the Inspectorate of Education published<\/a> last Friday stated that there are serious issues concerning the social safety of employees at TU Delft. It referred to \u2018a pattern where the neglect of care can persist\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Inspectorate alleges \u2018mismanagement\u2019 in the area of social safety. According to the law<\/a>, the Education Minister can therefore demand that the Supervisory Board take measures to improve the situation. Whether he will do so depends on TU Delft\u2019s response \u2018to the issues identified by the Inspectorate\u2019, outgoing minister Dijkgraaf wrote<\/a> to the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n

Direct challenge<\/h2>

TU Delft has opted to mount a direct challenge<\/a> in its response to the report. While stressing that social safety \u2018deserves priority, ongoing attention and improvement\u2019 and that it \u2018takes the Inspectorate\u2019s recommendations on board in its improvement process\u2019, it notes that the underlying investigation by the Inspectorate of Education is unsound.<\/p>\n

The report allegedly contains \u2018inaccurate, incomplete and poorly substantiated accusations\u2019 against \u2018the university, (groups of) employees and (groups of) managers\u2019. According to TU Delft, there is no evidence of mismanagement and the report is causing \u2018unacceptable and unnecessary damage\u2019 to the university and its staff.<\/p>\n

TU Delft therefore intends to submit the report to a civil court. The Executive Board and the Supervisory Board believe that such serious accusations should not be made \u2018on the basis of a limited investigation\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\t
