What will higher education look like in the year 2040? The long-awaited report announced by minister of Education Robbert Dijkgraaf on the future of higher education and science in the Netherlands, was published on Friday. It is unfortunate that he himself can no longer have any influence over it, he says.<\/p>

The government should not have fallen, says outgoing minister Robbert Dijkgraaf (D66). \u201cI still really regret what has happened.\u201d He is now no longer able to initiate new policy. That is up to the parties who come to power after the elections.<\/p>\n

But his long-awaited report, in which researchers explore the uncertain future of secondary vocational education (mbo), higher education and scientific research in the Netherlands, is about to be published. They set out three possible options, centred around the labour market, societal challenges and individual freedom.<\/p>\n\n\t
