A total of 150 students are spending the night this Eurekaweek in a kind of pop-up hostel at the Leonidas hockey club run by The Sleeping Agency. “I’m sleeping here because I want to keep on partying a bit longer.”<\/p>\n

It is 8:30 in the morning, the sun has been up for a while, but the temporary dormitories (set up for Eurekaweek participants who do not have a room) are still quiet. A single student rolls out of bed, past the hockey pitches, and trudges wearily into the shower building. Host Floris: \u201cI heard that things got pretty late last night, so I think everyone won\u2019t start waking up until around 10 or 11 am.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rise and shine<\/h2>

Otto is up early.<\/span><\/p>

Otto is up early though. Fresh from the shower, he says: \u201cI I\u2019m sleeping here because I want to keep on partying a bit longer in the evening without having to trek all the way home to Middelharnis.\u201d<\/p>\n

Is he up so early because he had a good night\u2019s sleep? Otto: \u201cWell, one thing I can say, you can get used to anything, even this.\u201d He is really only here to sleep: \u201cWhen I go to bed, I really want to sleep, so I\u2019m not here to explore and meet people.\u201d<\/p>\n

A still sleepy Ralph, on his way to the shower, disagrees: \u201cI spent last night on a bed with three girls, it was way too much fun!\u201d Otherwise, he slept well: \u201cWhen you\u2019re that tired, I think you can sleep anywhere.\u201d His search for a room in Rotterdam is still on the back burner, he explains: \u201cI\u2019m going to start looking, but I\u2019m not in a hurry. I live near Utrecht now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well-prepared<\/h2>

Everyone comes \u2018home\u2019 at a different time each night. People are still talking loudly at 4 in the morning. \u201cYou can hear every sound all around the room\u201d, Otto notes. Fleur has prepared herself as best she can: \u201cI have excellent earplugs, so I don\u2019t hear anything at all.\u201d She goes on to say: \u201cI still haven\u2019t had much sleep, but that\u2019s all part of it. I\u2019m tired, but that passes as soon as I\u2019m with my group.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students can arrive as early as Sunday and must leave by 10 am on Friday. Accommodation costs 150 euros plus 20 euros for a locker and 10 euros for bed linen. Fleur has noticed that it\u2019s mainly international students who stay overnight. \u201cA lot of Dutch students ended up going to student associations. That was actually a better plan, because it\u2019s free.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\t
